Paint Marker, 18" x 24"
Each of these compositions was created without any rough guides, drawn free-hand in permanent marker on the page– requiring absolute focus on keeping the mark even and steady. Instead, a simple concept was kept in mind throughout the process, such as falling, tangling, or bursting. In a way, these drawings are traces of the meditation of that focus, the hand and resulting line's movement across the page and through space. Looking more closely, each 'ribbon' is composed of five lines and four spaces, reminiscent of a musical staff. The title movements also references the musical term movement.
"While individual or selected movements from a composition are sometimes performed separately, a performance of the complete work requires all the movements to be performed in succession."
